"I was a spectator watching a film out of focus, with the sound turned off"
Sadly, many in our community can identify with the evocative words voiced by the late Chief Rabbi, Lord Sacks zt"l when he confided that he did not know why it took so long to recover from the loss of his father.
His perspective of dulled senses, "as if life was happening at a great distance" is something that many who have experienced bereavement may identify with.
That’s why members of the community have come together to create Bereavement Befrienders - a new group formed under the umbrella of Mill Hill shul with the purpose of providing active listening support when someone might need it most.
Working closely with the shul’s
welfare committee, who can offer lifts, shopping or other physical support, our dedicated group of trained volunteers is here for individuals who may also want to voice their thoughts or feelings in a confidential setting. They will be on hand to connect people to the support they might need, whether that is food or friendship, a shoulder or support network to lean on.
Whether you need to talk, sit in silence, or simply feel less alone, your community is here for you. You don’t have to face your grief on your own.
